11/15/2005 The Autonomous Lawnmower: "Titan Choppers"

We have established the first team: Hajer, Sandip, Jose, and Burhan will be in charge of this project. It is still possible to open a second (and third) team for the project, depending on how many people show interest. Francisco (Student Advisor), Dr. Grewal (Faculty Advisor), and Dr. Kwon (Senior Project Supervisor) will be assessing them on different issues.

The team was a little overwhelmed by the project at first. But, by splitting up the work they realized it was very straight forward. An overview of the five (5) major areas of this project would be:

1. Motion or Navigation: DC Motors, Encoders, Driver (H-Bridge).

2. Sensors: IR, SONAR.

3. INS: Accelerometers, Gyros.

4. Processing: Microcontroller, Programming.

5. GPS: Reference position, speed, and heading information. Improved accuracy in differential mode.

This is the guideline that will be followed to develop the Autonomous Lawnmower. The team members agreed that every week, they will prepare a 5 min. presentation of their particular area of research. Thus, sharing their knowledge with the rest of the team and assuming responsibility for the different topics involved.
