The Institute of Navigation Cal State Fullerton Student Section has planned the following competitions for active members (competition involvement is restricted to ION-CSUF members):
The projects that will be developed by ION-CSUF members will consist on vehicles (a ground vehicle and a lawnmower) that navigate autonomously. The basic concept behind the two is to be able to input a set of GPS coordinates into them, turn them on, and let them run according to the navigation path which was inputted. The ground vehicle will be judged on how well it can clear an obstacle course using different sensors and vision (camera). The lawnmower will be judged on how fast it can mow a lawn within a specific set of coordinates. Keep in mind that ION-CSUF members will participate in the development of several simpler projects, which shall help understand basic concepts that will be applied later on the more complex projects. The learning process will be step-by-step.
These two (2) very interesting projects will be under the close supervision of Faculty members and off-campus advisors.
The two (2) competitions we will be aiming for in the 2005-2006 academic year will be:
