Text: Numerical Methods by John H. Mathews

Materials: Course materials are available in the library and on my web page.

Computers: We will be using the state of the art software Mathematica and MatLab.

Exams:

  1. Exam 1 date Oct. 2
  2. Exam 2 date Nov. 13
  3. Final Exam date Dec. 18
  4. Sample Exams

Final Exam: A comprehensive final exam will be given.

Exam Contents: Exams are based on the textbook, lecture examples and material, homework, and the Dept. of Mathematics expectations.

Prerequisites: Math 150A, 150B, 250A, 250B and a course in programming such as BASIC, C, FORTRAN, Java or Pascal.

Reading: You are to read ahead in the textbook each day and be familiar with the new vocabulary and new material before they are covered in the lecture and computer lab.

Articles: Articles I have written about numerical analysis.

Course Homework: Homework will be assigned regularly.

Computer Projects: 15 of computer projects will be required.

Attendance: For consideration of your classmates and instructor, it is important that you arrive to class on time! Attendance is taken at the start of the hour.

Points:

  1. Hour Exams count 200 points
  2. Homework counts 150 points
  3. Computer projects 300 points
  4. Final Exam counts 150 points

Marks: A: 100%-90% B: 89.9%-80% C: 79.9%-60% D: 59.9%-45%

Your Instructor: Your instructor has office hours available to help you.

Computers: We will have the opportunity to use the new Math. Dept. computer laboratory and use the new software programs Mathematica and MatLab. Schedule of Math. Dept. Computer Lab Hours.
